The Monkey Mermaid Academy is up & running.
During the last week of January C4C made another trip to Phnom Penh, this time with 5 volunteers to build what turned out to be an incredible schoolhouse named "Monkey Mermaid Academy." Not only did we manage to build the schoolhouse but we also delivered 63 baby chickens, 1 adult chicken named Percy, and roofing tin for 16 homes in a squatter village we called Honeymoon Village. We also delivered fancy new volleyball nets (thank you Rally Pointe), volleyballs, over 100 volleyball t-shirts (thank you Carsten @ H.I.T.T Volleyball), other clothes, books, and school supplies Not bad for a group that came together from Airdrie, Toronto, Montreal, San Francisco and all met for the first time in Cambodia.

We couldn't have asked for a better group of people. Thank you Don, Heather, Chris, Brandon and Bruce. You are all superstars!
The humble design and construction of the portable schoolhouse got upgraded in no small part to this incredible team. Having an architect, Chris, on the team made the design and construction a little easier, attention to detail was handled by having not 1 but 2 pilots, Brandon was both the muscle and the local kids jungle gym, and Heather, when not nailing together wall panels, made sure the school had desks and supplies inside. We at C4C couldn't believe our good luck with this crew. We just needed to stay out of the way and make sure they had all the supplies they needed. It was a well oiled machine.
We also enjoyed the help of the local community members who were very grateful and eager to help us build their new schoolhouse. They also had a good laugh at our cement skills.

Of course none of this could have happened without all the support we received though our fundraising efforts. We thank everyone who donated and appreciate all your support greatly. We would like send a special thank you to the Cassil family, Muir family, Beamer family, Peters family, Barry Chugg and Don, Kerrie and Annabelle (who named the school after the Hindu deity Hanuman) without whom this trip would not have been possible!
